ABOUT ME

IMG_1007.jpeg

I'm Rachel, and I provide psychotherapeutic counselling from a private practice, currently online.

I am qualified with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts in Counselling from the University of Roehampton via Waverley Abbey College.

I am a registered member of the Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions (ACC).  I am committed to their ethical framework and code of conduct, and to undertaking continual professional development through attending further training courses, reading and networking with other professionals in the field,as well as receiving regular supervision.

Having begun my work life in HR, I have spent the last 20 years working in a church pastoral setting with individuals of all ages, supporting them in various ways with their emotional, practical and spiritual needs.  During this time I became more aware of the way people felt they should keep their problems to themselves, carry on regardless and avoid the emotional pain that they were experiencing, for fear of being judged as 'not good enough', and how these attempts to whitewash over their pain and struggles were having a detrimental impact on their wellbeing.

I recognised the value of providing a safe and non-judgmental space for people to be able to open up about what was going on in their lives, and how they were struggling, in order to help them make sense of how they were feeling and find healthy ways to cope and make beneficial changes.  Alongside setting up a community drop in and other activities, the passion within me to help people realise their potential for a fulfilling life and healthy sense of social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing led me to undertake professional counselling training.

I have experience working with adults and young people struggling with a wide range of issues such as bereavement, low self-esteem/confidence, depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, trauma, anger problems, bullying, issues of faith/spirituality and more.

My services are for everyone, regardless of faith, beliefs or background.

As a Christian in counselling, I approach my work with an understanding of the intrinsic worth of every person which means I meet people as they are, with no expectation that their beliefs are the same as mine, or any intention to make them change their beliefs.
